ORGANIZING YOUR SELF STORAGE FOR PERSONAL GOODS:
There are a couple of approaches depending on the time you have:
1. No Time and “No Money” situation and you must pay as little as Possible every month –
If you really have zero time, and are virtually in a panic during the self storage part of
the move – we understand because we all have such stressful times in our life. Put
simply, if you have virtually no time because you have to get back to your regular job,
put the heaviest things in the bottom of the self storage unit and stack as high as you
can go from there. Know that it will be a difficult thing to come back to and organize.
But if that is all the time you have, you have no choice, we understand we all have such
times in our life. Definitely do not put food inside the unit, as mice will eat not just the
food but possibly get into upholstery and other items plus make a mess in general.
2. Bit more money, bit more time. Definitely at least throw out what you can and what is
not valuable. Put wooden pallets on the bottom of your Storage Unit. Important family
pictures and documents try to bring home. Keep a list of what you put into the unit and
organize what you can into Labeled Boxes. If the Boxes have a logical order where they
must eventually go than separate boxes for separate destinations onto their own pallet
– shrink wrap that pallet and label (for instance: For Mary my sister, For Brother John,
For Agnes, For Aaron, etc). Things that relatives or yourself will need to take or access
soon put on the outside edge of the Unit for easy access. Remember to look at your list
and insure its value with the Self Storage or mini-storage facility. If you have everything
shrink wrapped, palletized and ideally you number each pallet, then you are ready for
whatever comes in the future. Make a copy of your list of pallets and items and put
INTO the storage unit if possible.
If nearly everything is shrink wrapped on pallets and labeled you can work with Easy
Self Storage, or Plattsburgh Secure Self Storage, or Lucenda Self Storage personnel who
can coordinate with FreightRun.com to ship your pallets wherever they need to go
eventually – all at a fraction of the price a moving company would charge. You are also
ready to go home, think about what is on those lists and in those pallets, and figure out
a strategy of what relatives get what or where certain pallets should go or what you
need to do with certain items – perhaps you want to sell them or give them away? Your
Plattsburgh group Self Storage professional will help you. For instance, perhaps you
have a couch that you have decided should just be given away – coordinate with Easy
Self Storage, Lucenda Self Storage or Plattsburgh Secure Storage to include it in our next
auction.
Besides being the only professionally trained and only full time Self Storage employees
in Plattsburgh, we are all Plattsburgh residents who care about our community of which
you are either a member of too – or an honorary member of if you live out of state but
